I’ve built a workflow script that replaces older versions of footage and then does some workflow specific things that I need. There is one big drawback to the script that I would like to solve.
Right now I select some footage in the project panel that I would like to replace and then select the exact replacement footage pairings in an import dialog. Fortunately it seems to process everything alphabetically so they match up fine. But sometimes it can be a pain finding each replacement file out of a large list.
What I would like to happen is I select the footage I would like to replace and then I choose a folder to scan. The script will then scan the folder (and subfolders) for footage with matching names and perform the workflow appropriately.
It’s the scanning a folder and importing process that I can’t figure out. I can’t seem to find any documentation on how to access and read files before importing them into AE. Best case scenario I would love to figure out how to show the pairs in the UI to confirm they are correct, similar to the way aescripts: Immigration works. If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be amazing. Thanks!
